I considered the profiles on: Hector Zuniga titled "He came, saw and debated" and Alice Payne titled "Alice helps create a wonderland".

Why did this profile stand out over the others?

The profile on Hector Zuniga stood out to me because I am interested in speech and debate.

The profile on Alice Payne stood out to me because it was accompanied by a picture of a rainbow flag, a sign of LGBTQ pride. I was interested in learning more about the LGBTQ community.

Why did the lead draw you into the story?

The lead in the article about Hector Zuniga stated that he had placed in the top 4 in a speech and debate competition. His success in an activity I enjoy made me interested in reading further.

The lead drew me into the story because I wanted to know more about how she changed her community by creating an LGBTQ club.

The story about Hector Zuniga focused on his academic journey, highlighting his struggles in overcoming his boredom with school through communications and speech and debate.

The story about Alice Payne focused on Alice’s background and why she created the club.

What’s your favorite quote?

In the story about Zuniga, my favorite quote is “ “I was in my psychology class, and I was just pretty burned out,” Zuniga said. “I was sitting there, didn’t want to be there. I didn’t want to do school anymore.” “ I like this quote because it resonated with my inability to pay attention in class at times due to ADHD and boredom. The story’s ending provided light to my situation and hope that I could still be academically successful even with these drawbacks.

In the story about Payne, my favorite quote is “ “What you take and you do does define humanity as a whole and everyone around you.” said Payne”. I like this quote because I feel the same way about my interaction with others and purpose in life.

From the bustling streets of Tokyo, Japan, to the peaceful outskirts of Hawaii, I will be a visual storyteller of social-political issues at a media company. Japanese Internment

In rusty bronze, a long, rectangular sculpture with small, etched vinaigrettes of Japanese internment camps catches a glimpse of autumn’s afternoon light in Downtown San Jose. The sculpture was designed by Ruth Asawa, a female artist who witnessed the fall of Japanese families and lifestyles in the face of rising racism and sociopolitical unrest during World War II. Like a scroll, the sculptures’ carvings are laid out in chronological order from left to right in the front and back, forcing the viewer to follow along with the stories of the victims. The once traditional Japanese dining commons that provided a sense of community and care transformed into an overcrowded soup kitchen where sullen faces and empty stomachs fought over scarce food.
