Dream Job

From the bustling streets of Tokyo, Japan, to the peaceful outskirts of Hawaii, I will be a visual storyteller of social-political issues at a media company.
I have always loved taking pictures and learning about the world around me.
But most importantly, I have always been interested in ways I can make it a better place.
Being a photojournalist would combine my passion for photography with me instinctive duty to bring justice to marginalized, oppressed, or overlooked communities.
Though I hope to be paid well, working as a photojournalist would give me personal satisfaction as I could be a voice for others.
I hope to inspire change by exposing the truth and telling meaningful stories.
As a successful visual storyteller, I would be extremely knowledgeable in all different types of camera and lenses.
I would know how to work in different lighting, and be able to adapt to my surroundings.
I would also have a keen eye for composition.
However, working with equipment is just half the job as a photojournalist.
I would also have to be extremely friendly and social by getting used to striking up a conversation with a stranger for information on the events and whereabouts.
Learning a second language would help tremendously as well.
To not be disrespectful to any culture, I would also have to be socially aware of my photography’s implications and receptions.
These skills will develop only with practice.
I will constantly be taking pictures of social events, political events, and even everyday life within my community.
At SJSU, I am in a photojournalism class in which I have learned composition, theory, studio lighting, and much more.
I hope to continue taking photography classes at SJSU in order to build up a respectable portfolio.
I am currently learning the skills needed to interview people, and I hope those skills will help me become less socially anxious.
In 5 or ten years, a career as a photojournalist will have made me much more culturally aware.
I would have a tremendous portfolio and thus, will hopefully be able to pass down the skills I have learned to students of my own.
